an excess of Liabilities over Assets of $311,773.32 at the close of the year 1899.
The amount, ($98,400.00), included in the Assets in respect of "Arrears of Land Revenue, New Territory", represents the amount outstanding for the two years ended 31st December 1900. I have been informed by the Local Auditor that these arrears are to be collected during the current year, and that, in accordance with an arrangement sanctioned by the Secretary of State, where such rents are paid on or before a certain date, one year's rent will be accepted as full payment, but that, in other cases, wherever possible, two years' rent will be collected.
Loan Account.
The Acting Treasurer's attention has been drawn to the fact that the total amount of the Sinking Fund, as shown in the "Loan Account", appears to be overstated by £50:19:1.
Local Audit.
5. The examination of the Revenue and certain other Accounts was conducted under my direction by the Officers of my Department stationed in the Colony. The Local Auditor also inspected the Accounts at the Post Offices
