CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION DEPARTMENT,

To The Under Secretary of State,

COLONIAL OFFICE.

LONDON, S.W.

14th October 1901.

Sir,

With further reference to your letter of the 30th ultimo, No. 33941/1901, regarding the case of Frederick Gilbert Hanson, who is alleged to have committed bigamy, I have to acquaint you, for the information of Mr Secretary Chamberlain, that the marriage register at Trinity Church, Upper Chelsea, has been inspected and it contains an entry of the marriage of Frederick Gilbert Hanson with Minnie Weston, on the 14th July 1890, the two persons being first cousins.

Mrs Hanson has been seen at No. Seaview Terrace, Shoeburyness, and she stated that the names and addresses of the available witnesses to the marriage are as follows:-

John Davidson, Hosier, 346 Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, and his wife, also James Howlett, Assistant Secretary, Live Stock Insurance Company, 17 Pall Mall East, S.W., and his wife. Mr Davidson, who is the uncle of both Hanson and his wife and able to prove everything as set forth at "A" in the memorandum of the Crown Solicitor for Hong Kong, is willing to proceed to Hong Kong directly after Christmas, but says it is impossible for him to go before and asks that he may be informed as speedily as possible if that will do.

Mr Howlett, who is the cousin of both Hanson and his wife, and also able to give the required proof as at "A"
