He is anxious

Mr. Savage called today for the affair, but distinctly stated that he could not take it unless the minimum salary was raised to £200.

He has been Mail Officer at Plymouth, and is qualified from probably efficient experience. At first, I didn't much care for him. He is anxious for an early reply; one must consult the Governor (by letter) if we wish to raise the salary. On the whole, I think we had better write to say that Mr. Savage has called here and state that his application was conditional on the minimum salary being raised to £200, but that we are willing to meet his wishes in the matter.
