Sir,

In continuation of War Office letter of the

4th December 1900, Hong Kong 5/444, I am directed by

the Secretary of State for War to acquaint you, for the

information of Mr Secretary Chamberlain, that the

General Officer Commanding at Hong Kong reports that the

Colonial Authorities now decline any further consideration of the exchange of land referred to as number 3

exchange in the proceedings of the local conference,

forming an enclosure of the despatch of the Governor

dated 28th August 1900, and transmitted with Colonial

Office letter of 3rd November 1900, 31905/1900.

In these circumstances the Secretary of State

for War is compelled to withhold his assent to the

other exchange pending further consideration of the

matter.
