Pressing
Sir,
War Office,
20 AUG 01;
London, S.W.
20 August, 1901.
With reference to Colonial Office letters of
the 15th and 17th instant, Nos.27235 and 28471, respecting the possibility of the services of Professor
W. J. Simpson being available for plague investigations
in Hong Kong, I'm directed by the Secretary of State
for War to forward for the information of Mr Secretary
Chamberlain a copy of a telegram recently received by
Mr Brodrick from the Premier of Cape Colony.
I am to enquire whether the arrangements
foreshadowed in this telegram would admit of Professor
Simpson's services being at the disposal of your
Department at a date sufficiently early.
No reply has yet been despatched by this
Department to Sir Gordon Sprigg's telegram nor have
any steps been taken to communicate on the matter, as
therein suggested, with Lord Kitchener.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
[illegible name]
Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
S.W.
