TREASURY CHAMBERS,

24 December

1901.

Sir,

Having received from the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China a letter of which a copy is enclosed, the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury have caused the Bank to be informed that Their Lordships have no objection to the proposed re-allocation of the Bank's authorised note-issue between the several Branches in the East.

Should Mr Secretary Chamberlain see no objection, I am to request that he will cause the necessary instructions to be conveyed by telegraph (at the Bank's expense) to the Colonial Authorities.

The Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office.

I am,

Sir,

Your obedient servant,

Francis Mowett
