From the Bombay Mint refacts for 1898-9 and 1899-00 it seems that Hong Kong takes millions of British dollars annually. A $125 a day would then be adequate for Hong Kong alone. I do not know what the Deputy Master means by the "local value" of the dollar, which he puts at 4s.
