Sir E. Satow to the Marquess of Lansdowne.~(Received September 16.)
Peking, July 13.
THE British Acting Consul at Samshui has remarked in his Intelligence Report for the quarter ended on the 30th June that there is an almost entire cessation of piracy in his district of the West River.
Mr. Little attributes this improvement to the rigorous administration of the new Viceroy of Kuangtung, who has freely executed evil-doers, and is stated to have accounted for some 3,000 criminals since he assumed his office some six months ago.
I have, &c. (Signed) ERNEST SATOW.
