Dear M Arnold Forster
Colonial Office
26 January 1875
I fear I have promised you rather more than I can perform. I find that the Intelligence Department always decline to lay down Frontiers as they hold there are publications including blue books, and maps which give the information as it is known to the Government and which are accessible to all.
There is a natural reluctance to affix an official cachet to maps which may contain matter which might hereafter be quoted against such an instance has actually occurred and it would then be very inconvenient to find that it had been acknowledged as correct by a Government Department.
I have seen Colonel Everett on the subject and he has expressed his willingness to tell your compiler where he can get the information necessary to enable him to correct your maps.
I hope that in this way all that you really want may be secured.
Yours sincerely,
(Signed) RH Meade
