Colonial Office
14th January 1845
My dear Hill
I send you over a letter from Bassett and Co. It is very important that they should not publish a series of maps taken from the German maps without the boundaries being checked. Otherwise we shall have them quoted against us.
I have told Ricketts to take them to the Intelligence Dept and ask them to be good enough to check these in which the Colonial Office is interested. Among them are boundaries between You and Germany and Portugal, France and Italy which concern you.
If you do not want incorrect maps published you had better, if they are conversant with your territorial questions, get them to scrutinize them. Arnold Foster is willing to alter his boundaries.
Yours truly
