I have the honour to report that in reply to your telegram of the 13th instant, I replied yesterday evening in the following terms.

The Consul for Italy at Hong Kong with Captains of 'Calabria' and "Stromboli" and seven officers on Sunday called on the Viceroy. At a return call to-day, a pending mercantile case was discussed. If speedy settlement was not arrived at, the Viceroy was informed that, as instructed, the Consul would communicate with the Italian Admiral.
Further enquiry was agreed to by the Viceroy.
