Gov
With reference to your letter No.33935/1901 of the 23rd October last approving of our selecting and sending out to Hong Kong a suitable candidate for the post of Armourer Sergeant to the Police and Volunteer Forces of that Colony, I have the honour to report for the information of the Secretary of State that we applied to the War Office for a candidate for the post and in reply to our enquiry have received a letter from Adjutant General to the Forces requesting that the selection of an Armourer Sergeant for Hong Kong may stand over for about two months as owing to so many of those Non-Commissioned Officer's having been sent to South Africa there are none available at the present moment.
I have, therefore, to ask whether the Secretary of State would wish us to wait until the War Office is in a position to recommend a candidate or whether we shall endeavour to obtain the services of an Armurer who has not had military training.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your Obedient Servant,
Under Secretary of State,
