DOWNING STREET, LONDON.

23rd September 1901

I have the honour to report for the information

of the Secretary of State that on the 17th instant we sent

to Inspector T. Duncan of the Hong Kong Police the usual

instructions as to his medical examination prior to his

returning to the Colony at the expiration of his present

leave of absence, and in reply to our communication he has

forwarded to us the enclosed letter addressed to the

Secretary of State resigning his appointment.

We should be glad to receive the Secretary of

State's instructions in the matter as soon as possible, as

if it is decided that Inspector Duncan is not to return to

Hong Kong we shall have to apply to the P. & O. Company

for a refund on account of his return passage ticket.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your Obedient Servant

The Under Secretary of State,
