From 10708/95 it appears that Alley May thought Mr. Francis should have received more recognition than he did; but suggested a C.M.G. Sir W. Robinson said that he thought it was easy when we ...eared... though Francis was ... he had no objection. Mr. Francis was presented with a silver inkstand with a suitable inscription, in common with others, and returned it (11530/95), asking why he had not been given a C.M.G. like Alley May. On receipt of the Governor's despatch forwarding (suitably) letter from him, which he proposed to publish, it was decided to note him for a C.M.G.; and when Sir ... !!973 ...not...
