been instructed to provide Mr. Drayson with free first class passages to Hong Kong for himself and his wife by the P. and O. steamer of the 11th instant. Should Mr. Drayson elect to return to this Office within the period stated in the preceding paragraph, he should be provided with first class return passages to this country.
You should give him the usual letter of appointment upon his arrival in the Colony.

I am directed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to forward for your information copy of a despatch which has been addressed to the Governor of Hong Kong in reply to your letter of the 4th October regarding your request to be chief Clerk in the Col. Secretaries Office in that Colony.
I am to add that he has authorised the Crown Agents to make you an advance of forty two pounds to be repaid in the Colony at the current rate of exchange by such instalments as the Governor may see fit to direct.
You should communicate with them as to the bond which you will be required to sign, and give them the name of a responsible person who is willing to become your surety.
