5. The despatch of this work has been questions forwarded to M.O. Chadwick, C.M.G., for his criticism, which I hope to receive shortly. I do not anticipate that there will be a reduction in the estimate as a result.

6. The visits of Dr. Sandson and M. Chadwick to the Colony will of themselves entail considerable expense, and it is of course impossible at this stage to foresee what medical and sanitary reforms may be necessary to effect in consequence of their recommendations. At the same time it is desirable not to lose sight of the fact that considerable expenditure may be incurred on this account, and that some part of the expenditure may be carried over to 1902.
