# MEDICAL DEPARTMENT.
411 Lennedy Town Hospital, 4 European Sisters and 2 Wardmasters.
On the 21st May 1891 the then Principal Civil Medical Officer reported "We are very deficient indeed in respect of nursing and as plague like typhoid is a disease which chiefly depends upon nursing the deficiency should be made good as soon as possible. We require in my opinion 4 trained wardmasters and 4 trained Sisters for the Kennedy Town Hospital one each for day and night duty. It is more and more difficult to get good servants for this infectious hospital and therefore it is essential that skilled English nurses should always be about to see that the subordinate staff are doing their work properly. Our staff of sisters at present only suffices for the needs of the Government Civil Hospital and so we cannot spare one for Kennedy Town Hospital".
The Governor regarding this as a most pressing want directed that provision should be made for it in the Estimates.
