(8) On the 12th January 1901 the Inspector of School reported that as the master of the Belilios Reformatory was ignorant of Chinese, it would be necessary that he should have an interpreter. The Inspector of Schools recommended that it would be best to engage one Chinese to act as teacher and interpreter at a salary of $360 rising to $480 and another Chinese to act as discipline officer or yardmaster at a salary of $240 a year. The item of $720 for 3 Indian attendants has therefore been omitted as unnecessary. The Registrar General is of opinion that there are insuperable objections to the employment of Indians in the Reformatory.

(3) Labour masters are required at the Reformatory to teach tailoring, Chinese boot-making and carpentry. It has been estimated that the cost of three labour masters will be about $600 a year when engaged.

(4) On the recommendation of the Inspector of Schools a cook has been engaged for the Belilios Reformatory at $4 a month.

(5) Quarters Allowance for 5 Teachers.- Soonderar has been succeeded as teacher of the Wantsai Government School by Chan Chiu-lai, late Assistant Teacher of the Sai Ying p'un Government School, who draws no house allowance. Mr. Fung Chau only draws a house allowance of $48.
