(1) Chinese Teacher, Tanglungchau School. On the 5th March, 1901 the Inspector of Schools reported in connection with the Chinese School at Tanglungchau : "Sixteen boys were presented for examination, of whom 2 had only been attending school for a few months. Of the remaining 14, 7 or 50% failed. This is entirely unsatisfactory. The discipline was extraordinarily bad as well, and the school room was not clean. I recommend that the teacher, Mr. Tang Bik Leung (who was warned last year), should not be dismissed but given the option of continuing in his post on a salary of $120 a year, with the possibility of earning an examination grant of $24, $48 or $80, according as the school is reported to be fairly good or very good". The teacher agreed to stay on at the reduced salary.
