(1) 5 Messengers $468. This slight increase is due to one more of the messengers being granted a rise of $1 a month on his pay.

(2) The resignation of J.C.Wong (C.O.D.72/1901) left vacant the post of clerk in the Land Registry Office. Li Tak Yung was promoted to fill the post at a salary of $800 a year rising by increments of $50 to $1,200 a year.

(3) Translator $600. This vacancy arose through the promotion of Li Tak Yung to the post of Clerk. In order to obtain a suitable officer the initial salary was fixed at $600 (instead of at $552 as formerly) rising by triennial increments of $60 to $720.

(4) Assistant Clerk. On the recommendation of the Land Officer, Mr. C. Kent was appointed as permanent clerk at $60 a month in lieu of the temporary clerk at $28 a month placed on the Approved Estimate for 1901.

(5) Ng Shiu Ling, a temporary clerk, was attached to the Land Office to assist with work in connection with the New Territory, and like all clerks employed in New Territory work was paid from the Miscellaneous Service Vote. Ng Shiu Ling is now doing general copying work, apart from the New Territory work, and on the recommendation of the Land Officer and Acting Treasurer his appointment was made permanent and he has been placed on the estimates with a salary of $30 a month (the same as that of the copying clerk of the Land Court).
