37. Widening
The whole of the sites along this road
have been sold and workmen's
dwellings of a superior class have been
erected or are in
the course of erection.
The road was
12 feet wide in
the first instance and it is now
proposed to increase it to 14
feet in width
so as to enable chairs and
foot-passengers to pass each
other with
a reasonable
degree of comfort.
38. Fencing Second Plague Hospital.
This building
hitherto, the enclosure of a
temporary bamboo fence
which is continually getting out
of order and it is considered essential that a
proper fence
of an unclimbable nature
should be substituted for it.
39. Lighting of the Civil Hospital.
Gas has hitherto been the illuminating agent but it is now proposed to substitute electric light. The advantages of electric light in an institution of this nature are obvious and the Vote calls for the necessary installation of the Civil Hospital.
