No.746.

Hong-Kong, 24th August, 1901.

Sir,

I have the honour to forward you herewith the Estimates for Public Works Extraordinary for 1902. The following are some comments with regard to them.

GOVERNOR'S PEAK RESIDENCE. The estimated cost for this work has been increased from $105,000 to $140,000. I have already given the details of this item in No.1762 of 1901 and since then water-closets and drainage have been added. I hope the sum stated will be found adequate to cover the cost.

NO.7, POLICE STATION. The estimated cost in this case has been increased from $24,000 to $31,000. The contract which has been let for the buildings amounts to $27,319.28 without allowance for water or gas service, &c.

PRAYA RECLAMATION. The sum asked for is the balance of the Government Contribution towards the work.

PRAYA RECLAMATION GOVERNMENT PIERS. The estimated cost for this item has been increased from $215,000 to $300,000. The actual amount expended to 30th June last was $237,357.22 and there still remained at that date some outstanding liabilities on Blake Pier and a pier to be constructed.

The Honourable

THE COLONIAL SECRETARY.
