It is proposed to select a Chief Clerk & Clerk to the Clerk of Councils for Hongkong. The Colonial Government requires an experienced Chief Clerk well versed in the marking of papers and in general office routine.
The salary will be at the rate of £500 a year rising by annual increments of £20 to £600 a year. The currency of Hongkong is based on the silver dollar, and for purposes of local payment the above rates will be converted into dollars at a rate to be fixed annually by the Government, and to be based on the average exchange value of the dollar during the preceding twelve months.
The candidate will be provided with a free first-class passage by intermediate steamer, or second-class by mail, on condition of his serving the Colony for five years. He will be provided with a return passage to this country if at the end of five years his appointment is not renewed or made permanent. Living in Hongkong is considerably more expensive than in this country.
