The appointment is permanent.
The officer selected for appointment will be provided with passages to the Colony for himself, and if married, for his wife and three children, on condition that he enters into an agreement to enforce and comply with the requirements of the laws of the Colony in regard to the importation of cattle, the management of slaughterhouses and cattle depôts, and the management of markets, as the acting veterinary officer is to supervise veterinary matters on the new territory on the mainland opposite this Harbour.
Private consulting practice will be allowed with special permission from the Governor.
The officer will be required to sign an agreement to refund the cost of these passages in the event of his leaving the service of Hong Kong within thirteen years of his arrival in the Colony for any reason other than physical or mental infirmity.
Candidates should be warned that the standard of living in Hong Kong is considerably higher than in this country.
