RECO 28 &
Goverment House, Rec 29 OCT 01
Hongkong, 26th. September, 1901.
In reply to your Despatch No. 274 of the
28th. ultimo, I have the honour to inform you that this
Goverment has not provisionally handed over any land to the
War Department, but has merely allowed the Military Authori-
ties to commence work on the new Battery at West Point upon
their own responsibility.
2.
I enclose for your information copies of
the correspondence noted in the margin from which you will
clearly perceive that the Colonial rights as settled under
the late arrangement embodied in Ordinance No. 1 of 1901,
to General
15th June 1901.
Sarah Bascorque to Governor - 20th June
-29th June, 1901.
have in no way been abandoned.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient
Humble servant,
Henry Arthur Blake
Governor, &c.,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.,
However, to follow the instructions more closely and correct the OCR output: ## Step 1: Review the original text for errors and formatting. The original text contains numerous OCR errors, including spelling mistakes, incorrect spacing, and formatting issues. ## Step 2: Correct spelling errors and spacing issues. Correcting the text: "Lady sto" to "Lady Stoke", "ette hobay rack" to a plausible original text is challenging without context, "Mr Chambslam" to "Mr Chamberlain", "Mer Brodrick's" seems correct but could be "Mr Brodrick's", "xo.383" to "No.383", "Goverment" to "Government", "Rec" to "Received", "ultimo" is correct, "elearly" to "clearly", " Bascorque" could be a name but is unclear, "Hurry act he" to "Henry Arthur". ## Step 3: Reformat the text into proper Markdown and correct obvious errors. Given the context, the text appears to be a historical document. The corrected version should be formatted for readability. ## Step 4: Apply the rules for OCR proofreading. The text is a mix of unrelated fragments and a coherent letter. The coherent part is a letter from the Governor of Hong Kong to Joseph Chamberlain. ### Corrected Text in Markdown FormatPage XX
