With reference to a Petition of Right to His Majesty the King from Matthew John Derman Stephens and Thomas Howard, which has been forwarded by Messrs. Stephens and Thomson, Solicitors in this Colony, for presentation to the Privy Council, and of which I attach two copies. I have the honour to transmit for your consideration the enclosed copy of a minute by the Acting Attorney-General and to request you to be good enough to take such steps as may be needful to protect the interests of this Government in connection with the Petition of Right, by engaging such Solicitors and Counsel as may appear to be necessary and advisable.
