I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 305 of the 13th ultimo, forwarding Copy of a letter from H. Carrington, C.M.G., suggesting that he may be granted leave, on half pay until he be retired on pension if certified unfit for further service, preferably "when he attains the age of 55 on the 29th of May next" with a view to the retirement at that date.
2. Telegraphed in reply on the 17th instant that I could only agree to grant half pay leave on a certificate of ill health and up to the limit allowed by this regulation. On this...
