Government House,
Hongkong, 13th September, 1901.
With reference to my Despatch No. 324 of the 23rd of last August, I have the honour to inform you that Mr. James Cheung has requested that his application for the post of Assistant Master may be cancelled.
2. Under these circumstances I recommend that Mr. Ralphs, 1st Assistant Master, Junior Grade, be promoted on the 19th proximo, the date of Mr. Barlow's retirement, to be 4th Assistant Master, Senior Grade, and that a new officer be obtained from home to fill the vacancy thus caused.
3. I enclose the usual table of particulars and I shall be glad if the new Master can be sent out at the earliest opportunity, as the Acting Headmaster reports that the College is undermanned and has suffered in consequence during the past year.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient
Humble servant,
Governor, &c.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.
