Subsection 1 of Section 89 of the Electric Lighting Act of 1899 runs thus:-

Sub-Section (1)

"If at any time it is established to the satisfaction of the Secretary of State for War that any work of the Undertakers or their supply of energy injuriously affects any telegraphic or telephonic line of the Secretary of State for War, the Secretary of State for War may by order specify the matter complained of, and require the Undertakers to abate or discontinue it within such period as is therein limited in that behalf, and if the Undertakers make default in complying with the order they shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding twelve pounds for every day during which the default continues."

The above is printed according to the English Act, paragraphs which do not apply are scratched out and Secretary of State for War substituted for Board of Trade and Post Master General to make apply to Colonial conditions.
