Lub Enclosure No 18 (9)
393
*If it be proved that any injury or damage to any mains, pipes, or apparatus of the Hongkong & China Gas Company Ltd, shall have resulted from fusion or electrolytic action caused by any currents generated or used for the purpose of electric traction on any of the Tramways for the time being belonging to the Electric Tram Company, nothing in this Act shall relieve the Electric Tram Company from any liability to compensate for such injury or damage which would have existed but for the passing of this Act". A similar clause was inserted by the House of Lords, this year, into the Bill of the Sheffield Corporation when that body was seeking further powers in connection with the electric tramways. From what I can gather it would be safer and more satisfactory to public interests, generally, and ourselves in particular, if the Electric Tram Company were compelled to have properly insulated metallic returns.

Local Secretary.
Perhaps I had better add to my remarks re Clause 19 that we should require reasonable notice with reasonable time to carry out any alterations;
