that the Colonial Government should obtain the services of
an Armourer to attend to the arms both of the Police Force
and of the Volunteer Corps.

I referred the question to the Honourable the
Captain Superintendent of Police and to the Acting Commandant,
Hongkong Volunteer Corps for a joint report and in view of
their report, of which I enclose a copy; I have the honour to
recommend that the services of an Armourer Sergeant should be
obtained at a salary of $1,800 per annum with free quarters.
