With reference to your Despatch No.237 of the 18th ultimo, and your telegram of the 14th instant, I have the honour to enclose a letter from the Secretary of the Sanitary Board showing that no gratuity was promised by this Government to Mr. J. H. Dandy.

2. The question of granting Mr. Dandy a gratuity has, however, been submitted to the Sanitary Board and I enclose copies of the minutes of the Members, in view of which and of the fact that Mr. Dandy appears to have contracted disease in this Colony, I have recommended in my telegram of the 22nd instant the grant of a gratuity of 2 months' pay.
