I have the honour to draw your attention again to the case of Ahrens, a German who has been in the Asylum for over 3 years.
Since my last letter on the subject he has rapidly and in a most extraordinary manner recovered and for several days has been allowed out to see his friends and the Consul and has behaved sensibly and returned to the Asylum in due course. I can discover no delusions in him at all.
The case being such a marvellous one will be reported to the Medical Journals but I thought I would inform you of the fact as his case has been so much before the Government and it might seem curious that he is out daily.
The case does not seem to be one of a remission of symptoms, which occurs occasionally in this disease, but a perfect cure.
The Consul, so he tells me, will probably now arrange for his passage home without further trouble.
