Enclosure No 2 (in triplicate)

RIGHT HONOURABLE

Sir,

With reference to your despatch No.40 of the 31st of last January, I have the honour to request that you will be good enough to direct the Crown Agents for the Colonies to transmit to this Government at the earliest opportunity, two colour embossing presses, for the over-embossment process as mentioned in the second paragraph of the above despatch, together with the necessary extra fittings, overembossing dies, date plugs and ink. It is necessary to order two (2) presses as one will not be sufficient.

The Crown Agents should also be directed to instruct Messrs. De La Rue & Company to prepare the working die, and key plate, for Stamp Duty stamps, together with overprint plates for the 25 varieties of stamps mentioned in the attached schedule, and to forward to this Government the number of sheets of each variety of stamp as given in the same schedule.

I attach the vernacular, written in triplicate, which has to appear on the above stamps.

Owing to the accession of His Majesty King Edward VII., entirely new issues of both revenue and postage...

JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.
