In reply to your telegram of the 3rd instant, and in continuation of my Despatch No. 269 of the 24th ultimo, I have the honour to inform you that Police Constable James E. New, who was stationed at Sheung Shui in the New Territory, was taken ill on the 22nd of last June and died very suddenly on the night of the 24th idem, death being due to sunstroke. He was attended by Dr. Ho Mai Hop, the Medical Officer stationed in the New Territory.

The Captain Superintendent of Police informed the relatives of the deceased by letter under date of the 9th ultimo.
