Sir,
I have the honour to apply for two months further leave of absence on half pay, from August 30th next, so as not to arrive in Hongkong until the winter has set in.
The condition of my health has not improved so satisfactorily as it might have done, and it is quite possible I may have to apply for further extension still, but I will delay this until I again go to Adelaide to see the medical men who have been advising me.
If they advise me to remain longer in Australia I shall of course send their medical certificate with any application for extension for a longer period.
Leave papers &c., should be addressed to the South Australian Government as at present.
I have not informed the Colonial Office at Home of the present application for leave.
To
The Hon. J. F. Stewart Lockhart
C.M.G.
COLONIAL SECRETARY.
HONGKONG.
I have &c.,
