From the Chief Staff Officer, Hongkong.
To the Colonial Secretary, Hongkong
Sir,
HONGKONG, 30th May, 1901.
I shall feel much obliged if you will kindly read the enclosure and give me the benefit of your opinion on the matter.
The case is as follows:-
About a year ago, Lieut.-Colonel Retallick proceeded to Great Britain on 12 months' leave of absence, Mrs. Retallick accompanying him.
About two months after his arrival in England, the troubles in North China broke out and Colonel Retallick received orders from the War Office to return at once.
About six to eight weeks after his arrival in Hongkong he was sent to North China with the Headquarters of the Hongkong Regiment, and Mrs. Retallick came out to Hongkong about 30 days later.
