C.S.O.

H.K. 7th December 1900

To H.M.Consul General

Sir,

Canton

In reply to your letter of the 26th ultimo relative to the proposed extradition of Yang Chu Yun,

I am directed by the Governor to inform you that before the matter can be dealt with in Hong Kong it is necessary that evidence should be produced of such a nature as to warrant His Excellency in issuing an order for extradition.

I am further directed to enquire whether you can obtain for the information of His Excellency a copy of the confession of Shih Ching Ju referred to in the despatch of the 23rd Nov. from the Viceroy.

H.B.M.Consulate General

Canton. 8 DEC. 1900

To the Colonial Secretary, Hong Kong

Sir,

With reference to your despatch of yesterday's date I have the honour to enclose herewith for the information of H.E. the Governor a paper which I have good reason to believe is a correct resume of the evidence given by Shih Ching Ju and referred to in the Acting Viceroy's despatch of 23 November.

This document was obtained indirectly and I therefore beg to request that it may be considered as confidential.

I have &c.

H.M.Consul General
