In a number of other ways the work has increased, but I think the figures given sufficient evidence to show that permanent assistance is absolutely necessary.
One additional assistant is required at once, and he should be a man who has already acquired some knowledge of accounts.
I hardly think that a suitable man can be had for less than $1000/mo., which might for this year be paid from the Vote Miscellaneous Services, unless a Special Vote be obtained.
I hope the sanction of His Excellency the Governor can be obtained early for this permanent appointment, but in any case assistance of a temporary nature is required now.
