No.238.
Government House.
Hong-Kong, 28th June, 1901.
Sir,
In reply to your despatch No.174 of the 16th ultimo, I have the honour to express my regret that the creation of the new post of additional Accounting Clerk in the Public Works Department was never submitted for your sanction.
2. I have now the honour to forward for your consideration the enclosed copy of a letter from the Director of Public Works dated the 23rd of last February, from which you will observe that the pressure of work in that Department has made the creation of a new Clerkship indispensable.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient
Humble Servant,
Henry May
GOVERNOR, &c.
The Right Honourable
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.
