I have the honour to inform you that there are at present 2 young American Doctors in this Colony attached to the United States Consulate. They visit all ships of whatever nationality carrying passengers or cargo to the United States Ports, and are responsible to their Government for the proper disinfection of passengers and luggage proceeding to American Ports. For that purpose they visit the disinfecting Hulk, which belongs to a private Company, before signing the necessary documents at the Consulate.

I am told that the same system is now adopted by the Consulates of the United States in London and Liverpool; but as I am not in possession of any definite information as to this point, and as I am in doubt whether the proceedings of these Officers in a British Port can be regarded as regular, I request that I may be furnished with instructions as to what action, if any, I should take in this matter.
