In reply to your Despatch No. 111 of the

4th. ultimo, I have the honour to inform you that under the

detailed Regulations of the Convention of Washington, the

equivalent fixed for the local currency of Hongkong was 10

25. cents (Mexican) for every centimes.

2.

In view, however, of the fluctuation in

exchange and of the fact that payments would have to be made

at the rates of the day, the Acting Postmaster-General recom-

mends that the equivalent be fixed at 25 cents (Mexican) for

50 centimes.
