Rations are issued in kind scale as laid down on page 3 local Allowance Regulations - actual market value of one ration at present is 23 cents. Issues in kind commenced in October, 1899, previous to which money allowance was given in lieu: viz:- previous to April, 1999, 18 cents per ration: from April, 1999, to October, 1899, 18 cents per ration. Official value of ration for purposes of compensation to. was raised in April, 1900, from 18 cents to 31 cents."

For Gunners and Naicks this deferred pay only extends to 12 years' service. Havildars to date of discharge. Issued when employed on heavy fatigues such as mounting heavy guns fc., 3 hours work per diem,
