The Army Contractor, who supplies

the Indian Troops in this Colony, has agreed to ration

the Indian Police at the rate of 23 cents a day per head

for a year, and the Captain Superintendent of Police is

of opinion that this rate is not likely to be exceeded

for a considerable time.

The estimated net increase involved

by these proposals will in a few years mount to about $13,500, and, as the finances of the Colony are at pre- sent in a sufficiently stable position to meet this ad-

ditional expenditure, I have authorised the Captain Superintendent of Police to give effect to his proposals provisionally in his draft Estimates for 1902 pending

your approval which I hope will be given.

I have the honour to be,

sir,

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

Henry Ablake

Governor, 80..
