With reference to the case of the German subject, Charles Ahrens, I have the honour to enquire who is responsible for his hospital fees. See C.S.0. No.343/98.
The man is a native of Hamburg and was admitted to the Lunatic Asylum on the 9th. April from the Gaol.
He has not improved at all and I advise that the German Consul be requested to take early steps to have the man sent to Germany.
The male portion of the European Lunatic
Asylum is now full.
The Honourable
I. Sercombe Smith,
J
Acting Colonial Secretary.
I have etc.,
(sa.) J. M. Atkinson,
Principal Civil Medical Officer.
