increased to $200 rising by triennial increments of $25 to $250 per mensem, and that the salary of the first Assistant should be fixed at $135 rising to 8175 by tri- ennial increments of $20. The latter is only a slight increase on the proposed salary of the new second
Assistant, but is I think sufficient; while in fixing
the salary of the Headmistress, I have considered the
relative salaries of the Headmaster and Assistant
Masters at Queen's College, and allowance has also been
' made for the style of living which the Headmistress
would expect to be able to maintain.

to inform you that the Committee appointed by me to
consider the question of the classification of the salary
of subordinate Officers considers it inpracticable to
class offices of technical nature, such as these under
discussion, with those of the ordinary subordinate
service.
