In reply to your letter No.7/G of the
14th. ultimo, inquiring, by direction of the Secretary
of State, whether there is any senior officer of the
service of the Colony or of the Federated Malay States
who would be willing to accept the appointment of
Inspector of Schools in Hongkong at a commencing salary
of $4,800 per annum rising by triennial increments of
$300 to $5,400 per annum, I have the honour to inform
you that the only two officers in this Colony who possess
the necessary qualifications do not desire to be consider-
ed as candidates for this appointment.

Your letter has been referred to the
Resident General, Federated Malay States, and I will
address you later on the subject of a candidate from
that service when I have received his reply.
