The Honourable
Sir,
Enclosure 2.

Education Department,
Hongkong, 17th. January, 1901.
I have the honour to forward
herewith an application in original by the Reverend 0.
Gussmann of the Basell Mission for a building grant to
assist in defraying the cost of rebuilding a Grant-in-
aid School for Chinese at Shamshulpo. I have nothing to
add to Mr. Gussmann's letter which deals fully with all
the points necessary to be considered, except to recom—
mend it to the favourable consideration of His Excellency
the Governor.
In deciding on the amount of Grant
it will be necessary to consider at the same time the ap- plication by the Church Missionary Society for a build- ing grant for their school at Yamati ( C.S.0.2416 of 1900) and an application for a grant to defray the cost of furnishing and altering "Rosehill' which has been made by the Italian Sisters and is the subject of an-
other latter.
I enclose also a plan of the pro-
posed school-building and a copy of the specifications.
These
J. H. Stewart-Lockhart, C.M.O.,
Colonial Secretary.
