- With reference to thefer charges against

you which were investigated by the Executive Council in your

presence on the 10th day of December 1900, I am directed to

inform you that while acquitting you of the last charge,.

the Council consider the and charge proved against you as

regards the first and third charges although the money may

have been“ paid directly to'your son; it was paid to him in.

the Land Office and the Council consider you were a party

to and cognisant of the transactions.

In the result, the Council feel that you

have improperly availed yourself of your position in the

Land Office to obtain for your son, at an extremely high

rate of remuneration employment with reference to the trans-

lation of Chinesef deeds of land in the New Territory and the

preparation and verification of Memorials theref.

The translations might properly have

been made in the Land Office gratuitously a translator

having been specially appointed for the purpose in September

1899.

In view of all the circuntances of the

case the Executive Council are of opinion that you should

be required to serve at a reduced salary for a period of 2

years. His Excellency has accordingly decided that the extra

emolument you receive as personal allowance should not be

allowed to you for a period of two years from 1st January
