May I be permitted to ask if it be possible to
consider the question of my transfer to some. other branch of Her Majesty's service, at home,
on the continent of Europe or in the West Indies? Invalided home last July in a very debilitated condition after more than eleven years in Hongkong I dread to return to that colony, to work in a hot
and damp climate at an enormous distance from home . If such a transfer is within the compass of possibility, I will hasten to detail my case more fully with evidence and testimonials; if not, I must submit to the inevitable consequences. I have the honour to be,
